One lucky Christmas tree grower will have their tree placed outside Number 10 Downing Street during the festive season as part of an annual competition to find the best growers in the UK.
The British Christmas Tree Growers' Association (BCTGA), which champions the use of sustainable real Christmas trees, is today (13 October) hosting its 13th annual Christmas Tree competition at Yattendon, near Newbury in Berkshire.
The winner of the contest will be announced later this afternoon and will receive the honour of delivering one of their outdoor Christmas trees to 10 Downing Street.
The competition' is divided into five categories; pine, fir, spruce, container growth and wreath .
Judges score the trees on their foliage, colour, shape and marketability. They must be 6ft (1.8m) to 7ft (2.2m) in height, produced from sustainable seed sources and cultivated to a set of environmentally friendly conditions.
The best wreath will be decorated and placed on the famous black door of the Prime Ministers home and office throughout the festive period.
