Brits Favourite Christmas Movies Revealed
Tue, 29 Nov 2011
It's A Wonderful Life has been crowned Britons’ number one Christmas film of all time.

An online poll, carried out by Radio Times, asked people to pick their favourite from a list of 50 films set on or around Christmas.

Topping the voting was It's A Wonderful Life, which picked up almost a fifth of the 3,000 votes cast (18 per cent). Made in 1946, the movie stars James Stewart as a man who plans to kill himself on Christmas Eve until a guardian angel intervenes.

The second most popular festive flick was The Muppet Christmas Carol which claimed 10 per cent of votes, followed by the Hugh Grant film Love Actually, Elf, Home Alone, Miracle On 34th Street and White Christmas.

A slightly less obvious Xmas favourite was the action-packed thriller Die Hard, which took eighth place with 4 per cent of the vote, while the family classics Scrooge and Santa Claus completed the top 10.

Radio Times film editor Andrew Collins said: "As it is the season to be jolly, I won't disguise my rosy-cheeked joy that the poll named Die Hard one of the top 10 Christmas movies of all time."

He added: "Set on Christmas Eve, it's just as capable of producing festive tingles as the more traditional, December-released Muppet Christmas Carol or the cocklewarming Love Actually, which was literally giftwrapped in 2003 with a lovely red ribbon tied around its twinkling poster
