White Xmas On The Cards
Mon, 05 Dec 2011
Britons hoping for another traditional white Christmas will not be disappointed this year, with weather forecasters expecting much of the UK to be covered by a blanket of snow in time for December 25.

As the first lot of snow of the festive season starts descending of various parts of the country, experts say that many of us are set for a repeat of last year's snowy Xmas conditions.

Severe weather warnings are already being made by the Met Office for Scotland, Northern Ireland, northern England and the Midlands, with up to 4 inches of snow expected to fall over the next day or two.

Jonathan Powell, of Positive Weather Solutions, said: "We may not see a mirror image of last year’s weather with widespread snow but the chances of a white Christmas for large parts of the country are quite high."

The odds on a white Christmas in several places including Edinburgh, Newcastle and Heathrow have been slashed by bookies following the Met Office forecasts.

Snowfall has already caused travel chaos in some parts of Britain. In Alston, Cumbria, drivers had to dig out their cars from snow drifts, while motorists in County Durham also struggled as snow storms closed in.

The sharp dip in temperatures across Britain over the weekend follows the second warmest November on record.
