Berwick schoolgirl Christmas card design voted the best
Thu, 01 Dec 2011
A schoolgirl from Northumberland is to have her artwork featured on a Christmas card after winning a national competition.

Annabel Tyser beat competition from thousands of other children in the search for artistic interpretations of Christmas with her colourful depiction of Santa Claus, and will now see her design appear on the front of festive greetings cards sent to businesses across the country.

The 11-year-old from Scremerston, near the town of Berwick, was one of more than 3,000 entrants aged between five and 12 who were asked to submit their festive artwork to estate agency firm Strutt and Parker.

After looking through hundreds of reindeers, robins and Christmas trees, the judging panel chose Annabel’s striking and colourful design to appear on the agency’s annual Xmas card.

"Annabel’s design encompassed the true spirit of Christmas. We were impressed by the use of bold colours and her excellent jolly Father Christmas design," the judges said.

"We are certain all our clients will enjoy Annabel’s delightful drawing and that it will sit proudly on their mantelpieces."

Annabel was awarded a £50 book token while a £500 cheque was given to her school. A £25 book token was also awarded to six runners up who will also have their designs printed on the back of the Christmas card .

More than £3,000 was raised by this year’s competition, with all of the funds being donated to children’s charity UK Youth.
